Kygo is our new goodwill ambassador
The artist Kygo is currently sailing around Cape Horn on Statsraad Lehmkuhl. - The ocean is very important for a sustainable future. We have got to take care of it. I want to use my platform to be able to spread the message to as many people as possible, he says.
Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll, better known as the artist Kygo, is one of the fellow sailors on board Statsraad Lehmkuhl. The ship sailed around Cape Horn in the beginning of April, in a strong gale.
- It was a crazy experience. A lot of fun. It was challenging. We had a lot of authentic Cape Horn-weather, which was perfect, he says, soaking wet and smiling.
Spread the message
Kygo has agreed to be a goodwill ambassador for Statsraad Lehmkuhl and the One Ocean Expedition.
- The ocean is very important for a sustainable future. We have got to take care of it. I want to use my platform to be able to spread the message to as many people as possible, says Kygo.
Haakon Vatle, expedition leader and director of the Statsraad Lehmkuhl Foundation, is very pleased with his commitment.
- Kygo is one of the world's most famous artists, with many millions of followers on various streaming platforms and on social media. He is also a very important ambassador because he reaches the younger generation, taking over after us.
Close together
Being on board Statsraad Lehmkuhl is more than waves, wind and a slanting deck. It is also a social experience, living close together, sleeping shoulder to shoulder in hammocks, and grabbing ropes when the sails are adjusted.
- I like it. I feel like I definitely stay very close to people. You live on top of each other. It's been a long time. I have to go back 10-12 years when I was doing my military service, since I lived that close to people. It is definitely something different., says Kygo.
Below is his message, filmed in the waters around Cape Horn.
